An 'Alien' Remake? No, No, NO

Agreed. No, no, NO! Definitely no! Stop remaking things!

While a sequel would be one thing, there's now talk of a remake of the original! Which doesn't make any sense whatsoever, especially while there's still a chance for a new sequel. But according to Bloody Disgusting, 20th Century Fox is eyeing up the original Alien for a remake/reboot.

Some remakes and reboots make sense. The originals were a long time ago, or special effects have finally caught up with the concept. As the new Star Trek shows, some series just need a new way of looking at things or a new director to take it in a new direction.

But Alien doesn't fit into any of those categories. The original still stands up to scrutiny, the special effects are good, the cast and crew are fantastic. So why the remake/reboot? Because Fox knows there's money to be made from it. Why create a new IP from scratch when there is one sitting in the back catalog just begging to be taken out and used again?

What's it been, 4 years now? I really wanted to get in on this MMO, but could never find the time. Yes, of course. Who has time? Who has time? But then if we never *take* time, how can we have time?

In May 2004, I embarked upon a journey. I decided to take the red pill in a big way--I became the online community lead for The Matrix Online. Later that year, many of you joined me as you jacked in for the first time. It was a brand new world--a vision of online games that didn't involve elves, spaceships, or dragons. We became part of the Matrix storyline; living our own adventures in the world painted by the movies.

It seems not so long ago I was jumping into Mara Central and going toe-to-toe with other devs at E3 2004. I had no idea this journey would take me to a whole different company, managing a major revision of the game, and my first producing gig. "Long, strange trip" doesn't describe the half of it.

Now we've seen how far the rabbit hole goes and it's time to wake up from that dream (or go back to sleep, depending how you look at it). On July 31, 2009, we will be jacking out for the last time. It's a bittersweet moment for everyone involved with the game; as a player or as a developer.

Matrix Online: All Good Things Must End

I think this'd be a kind of fun movie to see. Maybe they could get Arnold Schwarzenegger to be an undercover cop posing as a teacher, or something.

Speaking of cool (and fake) trailers, here's one film I would definitely go see.

Oh my god, they're eating all our sand!

  Green Lantern (fake) Trailer

This is an awesome fan-made trailer for a Green Lantern film with Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan.

I would so watch the hell out of this film.

Very cool experiment with portable CD players. In space!

This is pretty useful, especially when you're hacking your way around a new 4.2 installation, after having completely customized your old 3.x Movable Type.

How To Change the Default Image Upload Location in Movable Type 4.0

Since there isn't an option within the Movable Type user interface to make the file upload utility remember that I want my images to always go into the images subdirectory I decided to go straight to the source and make it happen. Please remember that if these steps break your copy of Movable Type I'm not the least bit responsible.

Configuring the upload utility to upload to the same subdirectory by default is actually quite simple. It only requires editing a single line of a single .tmpl file. However, if monkeying with an application's source code makes you really nervous I've heard there is a great plugin for improving Movable Type's file upload utility that only costs $10.

The file to edit is called asset_upload.tmpl. Assuming you have your Movable Type files in your cgi-bin the path to this file looks something like cgi-bin/mt/tmpl/cms/dialog/asset_upload.tmpl.
