He tries to show kids how bad mechanically-separated chicken is.

And fails.

I guess if you've got nothing better to do, and really like protein bars, this is OK.

Getting new tires on the bike, so doing lunch at Wild Wings. Yes, I'm asking myself why I didn't get wings. But this looks good.

  Old Soup Mix

Really old. Maybe it's time to throw this stuff away.

  Final Dessert from Alinea

In August, we experienced the magic that is Alinea in Chicago. Thanks to someone on YouTube, you can see what the final dessert looked like during preparation.

This is kinda depressing. No more Mel's Diner, Mr. Sushi, or Al Madina.

A fire Thursday morning destroyed several businesses in a Waterloo plaza.

Businesses affected by the blaze at the Campus Court plaza, 140 University Ave. W., include Mel's Diner, Tabu, Mr. Sushi, University Vision Centre, Sugar Mountain and Caesar Martini's.

Update: I heard that the other building's ok. If I got off my ass, I'd go over and see for my self.

A fascinating look at the ongoing argument of burger flipping. I've always been a nervous flipper, myself.

  Chili Day at Work

So my chili rides shotgun. I think I'll call it 'Shotgun Chili'.

Update: Wooo! My chili was judged the best (and hottest) chili. Yes, this doesn't really mean anything, but it was nice to hear.

Interesting drink discussion with the fantastic Rachel Maddow...

Imbibe: If you could make a cocktail for Barack Obama, what would it be?

Rachel Maddow: I've heard that Barack Obama is a martini drinker--maybe that's apocryphal, but that's what I've heard. I'd make him a Pineau Martini (2 oz. gin, 1 oz. Pineau des Charentes)--I think it's accessible for martini lovers, but with a novel, tasty twist. And Pineau is such a great weird liqueur with such a great weird story about its discovery--it would make for a good conversation-starter. I'm tempted to suggest an Aviation [with crème de violette] as well--but serving the new Democratic president a blue drink is just too cliché.

A good reward for a big workout.

The sad part about this is that it wouldn't have been a problem in Canada. The criminal charges part. I know a few people who have eaten brownies and gone a little nuts.
